For a late Range Rover L322 5.0 petrol V8, select the correct naturally aspirated or supercharged engine entry. iCarsoft LR V3.0 lists both in its 2010–2012 Range Rover group. GAP provides a late-L322 platform route with hardware conditions. Neither route makes a fault code a confirmed diagnosis.
Which vehicles this guide covers
This guide covers L322 5.0 petrol V8 applications in the reviewed 2010–2012 catalogue group. UK readers should distinguish their supercharged car from naturally aspirated versions encountered in other markets or as imports. It excludes early 4.4 and 4.2 engines, all diesels, the L320 Sport and the later L405 Range Rover. Confirm the actual engine, vehicle market and build rather than relying only on the V8 badge.
JLR’s 40th-anniversary history records the arrival of the 5.0 and 5.0 supercharged petrol engines in 2009. That is a model-history milestone, not a statement that every market sold both variants. The iCarsoft 2010–2012 catalogue then provides separate normally aspirated and supercharged engine choices. Read JLR’s model history.
Match the scanner to the question
| Owner question | Information to seek | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Warm-restart misfire | Original full engine report and operating conditions | A cylinder code alone does not condemn an injector. |
| Imported naturally aspirated 5.0 | Matching non-supercharged selection and market/build details | UK supercharged coverage is not proof for an import. |
| Multiple chassis warnings | Reports from installed ABS, suspension and transmission systems | Shared platform rows may describe unfitted equipment. |

Generic OBD versus manufacturer-aware diagnostics
A generic OBD/EOBD reader can be useful for supported emissions-related powertrain codes and data. That is different from access to the vehicle’s other controllers. A successful engine connection does not establish ABS, suspension, AWD, transmission or body-system access. Choose the tool around the question you need answered, rather than the number of functions advertised on its packaging.
Manufacturer-aware diagnostics can add access to specifically supported controllers and their data. Check the exact engine, build, fitted equipment and required reading function. A scanner may communicate with one system while another is unsupported or unavailable. Keep “no stored faults” separate from “no communication” in the report; neither is a certificate of mechanical condition.
The owner question behind the scanner choice
A 2010 5.0 Supercharged owner reported a recurring cylinder-four misfire after stopping with a warm engine, despite earlier component changes. Later posts describe further repair work and other cylinder symptoms. This is an individual overseas experience. It supports asking for the original report, operating conditions and repair history, rather than assuming that one cylinder code identifies one replacement part or that all injectors have the same condition. Read the owner discussion.
What to record before interpreting a code
For a fault that appears after a warm restart, preserve that timing in the report. A code read much later without its status or available freeze-frame context may lose useful evidence. Clearing faults or temporarily changing the symptom does not demonstrate that the cause has been repaired. High-pressure fuel-system work, injector testing and engine timing assessment are outside this reading guide and need appropriate equipment and competence.
iCarsoft LR V3.0: what the lookup establishes
The LR V3.0 lookup provides LANDROVER → Range Rover → 2010–2012 → Normally aspirated V8 and, separately, Supercharged V8. Both reviewed ECM diagnostic cards list fault reading/clearing, live data, module information and freeze-data reading. This does not promise an identical parameter set for the two engines. Confirm any particular pressure, temperature, misfire or fuel-control value before ordering. Check the official iCarsoft function lookup.
These are manufacturer-listed reading categories, not results from Unusual Cars testing. The reviewed cards also contain other feature headings; those are not used here to promise active tests, resets, calibration or programming. For a particular live value, ask the supplier to name it and confirm it for the fitted controller and current vehicle software.
GAP IIDTool: check platform, year and hardware
The GAP L322 → 2010 table marks PCM-Engine Petrol for fault reading/clearing and separately lists ABS, parking brake, suspension and transmission entries. It is a combined platform table: diesel and multiple transmission rows can also appear, so the presence of a row does not prove it is fitted. Select the actual year and confirm the engine and required controller/function. GAP explicitly warns that the table can contain missing or incorrect information. See GAP’s functionality and hardware tables.
Which diagnostic route makes sense?
For an occasional supported engine-emissions question, a basic EOBD reader may be sufficient for an initial report. For handheld access to specifically confirmed manufacturer systems, shortlist LR V3.0. For repeated ownership work involving engine and fitted-chassis reporting, compare the appropriate IIDTool package. If one unresolved fault is the only reason for buying, a suitably equipped specialist’s report may be more useful than a tool whose exact access remains unconfirmed.
Before paying, send the supplier the actual vehicle details and a short list of tasks: the engine fault report, the particular live parameter, or the named fitted controller. Obtain confirmation for those tasks. Do not treat “Land Rover compatible” or a service-menu heading as a guarantee of every function. Check genuine product identity, seller, return terms and current software coverage.
Hardware, devices, licences and updates
GAP separates G3 and G4 hardware and model-year coverage. Early L322 coverage especially needs the correct hardware choice; newer hardware is not automatically the right package for every older model. Confirm any manufacturer-approved adapter and supported phone/tablet, app and firmware. This guide gives no diagnostic-socket modification instructions. The BT product includes one VIN licence for VIN-locked functions; additional licences and Pro terms differ.
For iCarsoft, confirm LR V3.0 rather than assuming similarly named products have the same catalogue. Check the supplied connection equipment, installed Land Rover software and supported update computer. Product and function coverage can change, so repeat the exact-build check before purchase. Coverage of fault reading does not establish safe applicability of a service routine.

Save a useful first report
Save the complete original scan before clearing anything. Keep vehicle identification privately, together with engine, gearbox, modifications, exact warning wording, cold/warm behaviour, recent repairs and tool/software version. Preserve controller names, full codes including suffixes, statuses and available freeze-frame context. Include modules that did not communicate. Clearing a fault can remove useful evidence and does not repair the underlying cause.
Limits of the scan
Reading codes, clearing memory, viewing data, resetting a reminder, commanding a component and programming a module are different capabilities. This guide contains no immobiliser, key-programming or security-access instructions and guarantees no coding, calibration, programming or active-test function. Braking, steering, suspension, significant engine symptoms or drive-control concerns need appropriate professional assessment. A scanner cannot certify mechanical engine or transmission health.
Frequently asked questions
Are naturally aspirated and supercharged 5.0 entries interchangeable?
No. Select and confirm the engine actually installed.
Does one petrol PCM row promise every live parameter?
No. Obtain exact-parameter confirmation for the actual vehicle and software.
