A Mercedes CLA220d service price is meaningful only when the quote identifies the work, the vehicle version and whether VAT is included. Published UK packages provide useful comparison points, but they are not a firm C117 quote or a universal B5 price. Compare the itemised scope before deciding that two garages are offering the same service.
What published UK examples show
The following prices were checked on 13 October 2026. They are Calcot Cars’ advertised examples, not a national average, a dealership comparison or a confirmed booking price for your CLA220d.
| Advertised package | Price including VAT | Published scope or boundary |
|---|---|---|
| A-type service | £210 | The garage lists engine oil/filter, fluid top-ups, inspection/report and service-history update as applicable. |
| B-type service | £310 | The garage describes a broader package, including cabin filter and other listed extras; its package is not every vehicle’s prescribed B scope. |
| DCT gearbox service | £384 | Advertised oil/filter, gasket and bolts for the specified A/B-Class, GLA and CLA DCT applications from 2014; confirm the actual vehicle. |
The garage asks for an individual quote. Do not add these prices together and label the result “CLA220d B5”: no matching B5 service sheet or confirmed due-work combination has been established here.
Why an apparently similar price can be different
Beck Evans’ published Mercedes list states that its prices are plus VAT and were last updated in March 2025. It also says additional work can carry extra costs. We have not assigned a price from its combined A/CLA/GLA rows to a particular CLA220d version.
That is still a useful comparison lesson: a headline number may exclude VAT or refer to a different package. Request the final VAT-inclusive amount and the same operations from each garage. If you use a calculator to convert a quoted net figure, confirm the VAT treatment with the garage rather than treating your calculation as its final offer.
Compare the scope line by line
| Question | What a clear quote should identify |
|---|---|
| Which vehicle is being quoted? | C117 diesel or another CLA version, relevant engine/transmission and drivetrain. |
| What is the base service? | The listed operations, not just “full service” or “B service”. |
| Which additional items are due? | Each operation and the applicable maintenance basis. |
| Which products will be used? | Engine-oil approval and applicable parts/fluid specification. |
| What is the inclusive total? | Labour, VAT, consumables and any separate charges. |
| What record will I receive? | Itemised invoice and the maintenance-record update included. |
Send the same service message, mileage and previous invoices to the garages you are comparing. If one includes a gearbox operation and another excludes it, retain those separate lines instead of concluding that the dearer base service is overpriced.
B5 should lead to an itemised quote
The visible suffix is not enough for a fixed parts package. Ask for the vehicle-specific work established from the applicable service information. Our B5 explanation and workshop-code guide explain why this matters.
When a garage adds an operation after inspection, ask whether it is scheduled maintenance, a condition-based repair or an optional extra. Keep the explanation and price with the quote. This makes it easier to authorise necessary work without losing track of what was originally included.
Oil and gearbox work are different price lines
An engine-oil service should identify the applicable Mercedes approval. A lower price for unspecified “synthetic oil” is not enough to establish an equivalent job. Oil quantity, filter application and the inspections included also affect what you are comparing.
For gearbox work, specify the transmission rather than asking for a generic “seven-speed Mercedes service”. The DCT example above is a separate advertised package; it does not establish that a gearbox service is due during your current ASSYST visit, nor a fluid specification or interval for every CLA.
The CLA220d engine-oil guide explains the approval and quantity checks. Use the CLA220d maintenance guide to organise the service history you send with a quotation request.
Independent specialist or Mercedes dealer?
Compare the written work, products, records and support offered. Ask each provider how it will record the maintenance and deal with any separate diagnostic work. If an existing service plan, warranty or other agreement influences your decision, check its own terms rather than relying on a generic assurance on a service-price page.
This guide does not establish a dealer-versus-independent saving, warranty entitlement or resale-value effect. You can still make a useful decision by requesting comparable scopes and checking what each offer includes.
Can supplying your own parts save money?
Ask whether the garage accepts customer-supplied parts, what it charges for fitting, and how its responsibility for the supplied components is handled. A shopping basket is not comparable to a workshop price that includes labour, inspections and record updates.
Verify the product requirement first. We have not selected an affiliate service kit, and a cheaper filter or fluid should not change the maintenance recommendation. A complete B5 parts bundle remains unresolved for the vehicle-specific draft.
A useful quotation request
“Please quote for my CLA220d C117 using its applicable maintenance requirements. The full ASSYST message is [your message], mileage is [your mileage], and the previous invoices are attached. Please separate the base service, additional scheduled work and repairs, identify the oil approval and parts basis, and show the final price including VAT and the record update.”
Give registration or VIN privately to the provider where needed. For shared context, use Service A, Service B and the CLA ASSYST guide. Describe warning lamps or running problems separately from scheduled maintenance.
