A wheel-speed circuit fault is a much more useful starting point than the general description “ABS light”. On an X-Type 2.5 V6, the scanner’s value depends on reaching the braking controller and identifying what it recorded. Engine-only OBD2 can remain useful while leaving that separate question unanswered.
Which vehicles this guide covers
This guide covers the X-Type 2.5 V6 petrol within the checked 2004–2009 group, labelled AJ61 2.5L in the iCarsoft lookup. Reproduce that menu label when asking about coverage, while identifying the real engine and build independently. It excludes the 2.0/2.1 and 3.0 petrols, both diesels and engine conversions.
The technical and repair-report examples below concern 2002 2.5 petrol cars. They illustrate the type of braking information available; the later catalogue check does not establish identical hardware or early-year compatibility. Ask separately if your car predates the checked group.
What the extra diagnostic access buys you
Here, “generic” means the standard emissions-related OBD/EOBD mode. It can retrieve supported engine-emissions codes, readiness information, freeze frames and standard live values. It does not interrogate every controller in the car. Some multi-brand scanners also have enhanced Jaguar coverage; the useful difference is confirmed access to your vehicle and required module, rather than the badge on the tool.
A generic reader may retrieve supported petrol-engine P-codes and readiness information. The extra reason to seek Jaguar support here is direct access to ABS/DSC reports, not an unsupported claim that every Jaguar-related code is hidden from generic equipment.
Match the scanner to the owner question
| Owner question | Extra information to seek | Important limit |
|---|---|---|
| ABS warning on the 2.5 petrol | Read the fitted ABS or DSC controller | A socket connection to the engine proves only engine access. |
| Right-front wheel-signal investigation | Complete code and circuit description | C1145 is not an automatic order for a new sensor. |
| Several engine and chassis complaints | Keep module reports separate | One car can have more than one fault. |

A researched example from this vehicle
The Jaguar 2002 X-Type DTC summaries hosted by JCNA describe C1145 as a right-front wheel-speed sensor circuit fault in the relevant braking controllers. The suggested causes include wiring faults; the code is more specific than an ABS lamp but does not identify a replacement part by itself.
A public iATN repair enquiry for a 2002 X-Type 2.5 petrol automatic lists C1145 among the reported conditions. Its detailed replies and repair are behind membership access, so this article does not claim to know the fix. The example demonstrates a real chassis-code investigation alongside other complaints, not an Unusual Cars test.
How a Jaguar-aware reader can dig deeper
With confirmed ABS access, save the controller identity, full code and status. The diagnostic gain is knowing the recorded circuit rather than receiving an empty emissions report or guessing from the warning. Check the applicable year-specific Jaguar information before interpreting a code description.
If wheel-speed data is confirmed for the exact build, a technician may use it to compare a suspect input with other evidence. The manufacturer lookup checked here lists live data without an individual parameter list. A broad “all systems” description is not enough to promise a particular display.
Treat wiring, connector, sensor and signal-generation checks as diagnosis, not as interchangeable parts purchases. The older 2002 reference cannot be used as proof that the same code meaning or physical assembly applies unchanged to every later X-Type.
Other questions the engine scan does not answer
On an automatic, transmission warnings require their own correctly identified controller and gearbox. A generic P-code may already be accessible; obtain the original report before paying for another reader.
All-wheel-drive mechanical noise, tyre condition and driveline wear are not certified by a clear electronic scan. The petrol drivetrain should not be assessed using diesel-specific repair advice.
iCarsoft LR V3.0 and the evidence behind the shortlist
The official iCarsoft function lookup, reviewed on 3 November 2026, gives the route LR V3.0 → JAGUAR → X_Type → 2004-2009 → AJ61 2.5L. The ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) card lists Read Fault Code, Live Data and Clear Fault Memory. These are documentary catalogue entries, rather than an Unusual Cars test of an individual car.
The ABS card in the selected 2.5L group lists fault reading, live data and clearing. The historical 2002 documents are separate evidence of diagnostic distinctions, not proof that LR V3.0 was used in that repair enquiry or supports every earlier build.
A “Live Data” category does not establish every available parameter. Ask the supplier to confirm the particular values you need. Shared catalogue groups can contain equipment absent from your car, and a service-menu heading is not proof of a fitted system. Fault reading does not establish reset, active-test, coding, calibration or programming support.
Hardware, updates and the buying check
The manufacturer’s LR V3.0 page describes a standalone handheld, a 16-pin cable and PC-based updates, with lifetime free software upgrades advertised. Confirm current supply, update requirements and support before ordering.
Request written confirmation for the actual 2.5 V6, year, market and fitted braking controller. If the job is a wheel-signal investigation, ask which wheel parameters are exposed. For an automatic, confirm any transmission task separately.
Compare a Jaguar-aware handheld, an enhanced multi-brand alternative and an equipped Jaguar specialist against the same task. An owner’s report from another scanner is not proof that LR V3.0 will produce the same result. Ask about current software, genuine supply, warranty and return terms. Check compatibility privately using the build details or VIN; registration year alone may be insufficient.

Is a vehicle-specific scanner worth the investment?
The investment case is stronger when you expect to need braking or other confirmed module reports repeatedly. A saved circuit-level result can give a specialist a clearer starting point than a dashboard photograph and an engine-only no-code result.
A generic reader may be sufficient for a supported engine-emissions complaint. Compare the cost of enhanced ownership access with an equipped workshop’s diagnosis, and avoid guaranteed savings claims.
Preserve a useful report before clearing anything
Save the reporting controller, complete code and suffix, current or stored status, available freeze-frame details and tool/software version. Record the exact warning, when it appeared, operating conditions, recent work and symptoms. Keep modules that did not communicate separate from modules that connected and reported no codes. Clearing removes evidence; it does not repair a fault.
Limits and professional help
Brake, stability, suspension or transmission warnings and abnormal vehicle behaviour need appropriate professional assessment. A cleared message is not evidence of a repaired fault or safe operation.
This is a guide to choosing a reading route. It gives no brake-release, roof override, air-suspension repair, forced-regeneration, key-programming or security-access instructions, and guarantees no coding, calibration, programming or active-test functions. A scan cannot certify mechanical health or safe operation.
