For the original Range Rover Velar L560 3.0 V6 diesel, start with the engine identity and the information you want to read. iCarsoft LR V3.0 has a V6 diesel lookup group; GAP IIDTool BT documents L560 reading functions with separate hardware conditions. Neither a D300 badge nor a menu of emissions routines proves compatibility or establishes a repair.
Which vehicles this guide covers
This guide covers early L560 Velar vehicles with the original 3.0-litre V6 diesel. The early 2017–2019 platform group and a 2018 functionality selection are the documentary starting points. A later registration or build needs its own confirmation, rather than extending that example automatically.
It excludes the four-cylinder diesels, petrol engines, plug-in hybrids and later straight-six diesel or mild-hybrid applications. In particular, establish which engine a D300-badged vehicle actually contains. The iCarsoft 2018–2020 catalogue group is broader than a single vehicle and is not proof that every engine or routine shown applies to this original V6.
Match the scanner to the question
| Owner question | Information to seek | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Engine or emissions warning | Full powertrain report and supported context before intervention | A warning alone does not establish a blocked filter or the appropriate repair. |
| Several messages after previous work | Original and subsequent reports, with an accurate event history | The order of events does not prove who or what caused a fault. |
| Gearbox or chassis complaint | Separate relevant controller and supported data | An engine-only scan is not a whole-vehicle assessment. |
| Buying hardware for a D300 | Actual engine, build and required communication support | A badge shared across engine generations is not sufficient identification. |

Generic OBD and manufacturer-aware diagnostics
A compatible generic EOBD reader can retrieve supported emissions-related powertrain codes, readiness information, freeze-frame and standard live data. It can be useful for an engine warning, and some transmission-related powertrain codes may also be available. A successful generic connection does not establish access to the separate ABS, chassis, body or transmission controllers. Check whether the result came from the generic OBD menu or a manufacturer-specific vehicle selection.
Generic emissions information can provide a useful starting report where supported. If a complaint involves a separate transmission, chassis or body system, record the manufacturer-aware controller report too. Keep a controller that returned no faults separate from one the tool did not access.
Why the first report matters before parts or reset routines
An owner discussion about a 2018 Velar D300 begins with an emissions warning and later work, followed by disputed explanations. It is useful as a question about preserving diagnostic evidence and identifying the engine. The thread does not establish a verified cause, responsibility or a general failure rate.
Later replies also confuse the original V6 and subsequent straight-six before correcting the distinction. This guide does not adopt the thread’s allegations, repair suggestions or mechanical diagnoses. A saved baseline report, full codes and documented symptoms are more useful than assuming that a filter warning proves which component needs replacement or a particular routine.
iCarsoft LR V3.0: select the V6 diesel explicitly
The official lookup provides LR V3.0 → LANDROVER → Range Rover Velar → 2018–2020 → V6 3.0L Diesel. Its powertrain diagnostic entry lists fault-code reading, clearing, live data, module information and freeze data. This supports investigating the handheld for a matching engine-reading task.
The group also displays multiple engines and many service routines. Those are catalogue options, not a list of things fitted or appropriate to one vehicle. Ask about the actual controller, required data and current software. A DPF, AdBlue or transmission menu label does not establish a suitable repair procedure or a guaranteed function.
GAP: use both the L560 functionality and hardware tables
The GAP L560/2018 selection lists powertrain, transmission, ABS, chassis, gateway, rear-differential and transfer-case entries with reading and live values. GAP explains that its 2017-onward platform lists group controller generations, so the actual fitted module still needs identification. It also warns that the table is being updated and may contain omissions or errors.
For the 2017–2019 L560 group, GAP lists G4 support and G3 support subject to its notes. Later L560 vehicles have different requirements, including G4 where controllers use DoIP. Confirm the current complete hardware package for the actual build and reading task. Do not infer that early V6 evidence covers every later Velar.
Which buying route makes sense?
Consider LR V3.0 for a supplier-confirmed standalone reading requirement. Compare the appropriate IIDTool package if its phone workflow and confirmed systems suit continuing Velar ownership. For a recurring emissions warning, complicated fault history or communication failure, a properly equipped specialist may offer the more useful first report. The affiliate search leads to iCarsoft options; it is not a verified GAP purchase route or a guarantee for every D300.
Hardware, updates and licences
GAP IIDTool BT uses a compatible iOS or Android device; check the current app, Bluetooth and operating-system requirements before buying. Firmware updating is separate from connecting at the car. GAP’s licence policy separates supported fault reading and live values from advanced VIN-licensed functions. A BT package includes a VIN licence for relevant advanced work; do not describe all reading as locked to one car. Check ownership transfer and included hardware when considering a used unit. For iCarsoft, confirm genuine hardware, the serial-specific updater, supported computer and included card reader or cable.

Save a useful first report
Save the original report before clearing anything. Record the private VIN/build identification, engine, gearbox, fitted equipment, exact warning wording, symptoms, recent repairs and tool/software version. Keep the controller name, full code including suffix, status, description and any available freeze-frame or live-data context. Distinguish a controller reporting no faults from one that did not communicate, and identify systems the tool did not access. A code is evidence for investigation, rather than a parts order; clearing it does not repair the cause.
Limits of the scan
Reading faults, clearing faults, viewing data, running a service routine, commanding an active test and programming a module are different capabilities. This guide guarantees none of the latter functions. It contains no immobiliser, key-programming, security-access, brake-repair, suspension-calibration or forced-regeneration instructions. Symptoms affecting braking, steering, suspension or drive control need appropriate professional assessment. A scanner cannot certify mechanical engine or gearbox condition.
Frequently asked questions
Does D300 always identify the V6 diesel?
No. Identify the actual engine and build. This guide deliberately excludes the later straight-six applications.
Does a filter warning prove the DPF needs replacement?
No. Obtain the relevant report and an appropriate diagnosis. The warning alone does not establish a component failure or a suitable service routine.
Is all L560 equipment listed in the GAP table fitted to my car?
No. GAP groups platform equipment across years. Check the actual controller and its supported reading functions.
