A useful service plan for a Mercedes GLA220 CDI or GLA220d X156 starts with its exact OM651.930 application, the ASSYST PLUS reminder and the record of previous work. Oil, each filter and any transmission or drivetrain work need their own checks. A single “full service” description can hide important differences between quotes.
This guide covers the selected first-generation diesel applications below. The petrol GLA220 and the later H247 GLA220d are separate vehicles for maintenance research, even where a search result uses the same badge.
Identify the GLA before comparing parts
| MANN application | Engine and output | Catalogue entry starts |
|---|---|---|
| GLA220 CDI, types 156.903/156.905 | OM651.930, 125 kW/170 hp | September 2013 |
| GLA220d X156 | OM651.930, 130 kW/177 hp | August 2015 |
Those dates identify the catalogue entries; they do not prove the specification of an individual car. Keep the engine, output, build details, drivetrain and steering side together when checking a service kit. An AMG Line trim label does not make the car an AMG GLA45.
What does the service display tell you?
The inspected Mercedes manual uses Serv. → ASSYST PLUS to display the next service due date. Record the whole message and mileage before booking. It distinguishes the smaller A service from the larger B service and refers to the Service Booklet for the actual work and intervals.
Our ASSYST PLUS overview explains the shared system. Treat a suffix as information to pass to the workshop, rather than a universal list of filters and fluids. The reminder also does not measure the engine oil level.
Oil and filter checks you can make before booking
The GLA220d X156 oil guide explains the 2017 manual’s 6.5-litre service-fill reference and the relevant approval group. Its coverage matters: a figure from an A-Class forum or a US petrol GLA manual does not establish the diesel quantity for your car.
The GLA220 diesel filter guide identifies MANN’s oil and engine-air references, the cabin-filter alternatives and the right-hand-drive fuel-filter distinction. A kit should list the exact components, rather than simply promise that it fits a “2.1 Mercedes”.
Compare the complete appointment
Mercedes-Benz UK’s service explanation separates routine maintenance from recommended additional items determined by age and mileage. Request the same separation when obtaining quotes. It makes the difference between a low headline price and a complete maintenance plan easier to see.
- Base service: identify the service being quoted and its included inspections.
- Oil: confirm the product, MB approval and quantity for the vehicle.
- Filters: name each filter included and check when it was last replaced.
- Additional work: list the applicable time- or distance-dependent items separately.
- Transmission and drivetrain: confirm the exact equipment before accepting a fluid specification, interval or kit.
- Records: agree how the completed service will be documented and keep the itemised invoice.
A fault investigation belongs on a separate line from scheduled servicing. An oil change or reminder reset is not a diagnosis of a warning lamp; the linked Mercedes scanner guides explain how to approach diagnostic-tool selection.
Short trips, dust and frequent recirculation
The owner manual identifies arduous use as a reason for more frequent attention to selected items. Alongside city stops, short journeys and long idling, it mentions particularly dusty conditions and frequent air-recirculation use, with interior filtration among the items to consider.
Describe how the GLA is used when agreeing its plan. That gives a useful reason to review maintenance without inventing one shorter interval for every X156. If history is incomplete, start with the dated records you have and agree the missing work item by item.
