Mercedes ASSYST PLUS is a service-reminder and maintenance-information system. It helps you see when servicing is due. On documented generations, the message also identifies the basic service and additional work. The dashboard message is the starting point for checking a service, rather than a complete shopping list.
Quick answer
Check the full message, your car’s identity and the vehicle-specific service information together. A display code, a workshop code and a service report serve different purposes. Knowing which one you have makes it easier to request an accurate quotation.
What is the difference between a service code and a workshop code?
Mercedes’ Model Series 204 technical brochure distinguishes the two: the first character is A or B; the second indicates extra operations. The workshop code includes the work due for that vehicle, accounting for time, mileage and equipment, and supports creation of a service sheet. This is documented W204-era logic, not a universal decoder for every Mercedes.
| Information | How to use it |
|---|---|
| Dashboard message | Record the complete wording and countdown when arranging servicing. |
| Workshop code | Ask the workshop to use it with the vehicle details to establish the scope. |
| Service sheet | Use the itemised maintenance requirements to compare quotations. |
| Completed service report | Keep it with the invoice as evidence of what was done. |
Does ASSYST PLUS mean Service B is due?
No. ASSYST PLUS is the system name. A and B identify service scopes on the cars covered here. See our Service A explainer and Service B explainer for the different booking questions. If your message includes B5, use the B5 guide before assuming what the suffix means.
How do I check what is due?
- Photograph the full service message, including remaining days or miles.
- Identify the model, generation, engine, registration and vehicle identification number (VIN). Use registration and VIN privately with your workshop; avoid posting them in a public comment.
- Check the owner’s manual that matches your car and its market. Menu instructions from a different steering wheel or instrument cluster may not match.
- Supply the mileage and previous service invoices. Ask the workshop for the current vehicle-specific service sheet or an itemised equivalent.
- Ask which items are scheduled maintenance, which are repairs following inspection, and which are optional extras.
The 2015 C117 CLA owner-manual example has a Serv. menu and an ASSYST PLUS submenu for viewing the due date. That owner menu is distinct from workshop functions. This US-market example does not establish a UK CLA diesel maintenance schedule.
Why can the reminder use days rather than miles?
In the documented W204 system, the first time or mileage limit reached determines the due date. Mercedes’ April 2007 technical brochure, printed p.11, explicitly says the display can switch between remaining distance and time as driving behaviour changes. A change from miles to days alone therefore does not establish that a reset or repair is needed. This historical explanation is not a universal rule for every generation or a new UK service interval.
Low annual mileage is not enough to decide that a service can wait. Follow your own car’s manual and reminder, and discuss unusual use with the workshop. Changing the displayed unit does not itself identify additional maintenance jobs.
Keep a note of the date and mileage when you request a quotation. If the reminder changes before the appointment, tell the workshop rather than assuming the previous estimate still covers every item.
What if it says overdue or the countdown does not change?
For a reminder whose due point has passed, read what a Mercedes overdue or exceeded message means. If the display repeatedly stays at 365 days or the remaining time looks implausible, our ASSYST PLUS 365-day countdown guide separates two documented conditions on specified newer series. That is a different question from the reminder simply changing units.
Is a service reminder an OBD fault code?
Use the service-information route for scheduled maintenance. If the car also has a warning lamp or a running problem, describe that separately when booking. Our car-specific OBD and diagnostic scanner guides provide a starting point for diagnostic research. Before buying a tool for ASSYST functions, require explicit support for your generation and the exact function you need.
Can I reset the message?
A reset does not carry out maintenance. The CLA manual places the reset after service work and directs an accidental reset to a qualified workshop. This overview does not provide a button sequence: use a procedure verified for your exact car when the complete service has been performed.
What should I keep after servicing?
Keep the itemised invoice and completed service record together. Ask the garage to identify the oil approval and any additional operations on the paperwork. That makes the next quotation easier to check and prevents an undocumented previous job from being assumed complete.
