Mercedes C-Class W204 ASSYST PLUS Service Codes Explained

For a W204 C-Class, preserve the full ASSYST PLUS service message and identify the instrument-cluster version before following menu advice. Early Mercedes documentation explains A/B suffix codes, but it is not a current parts list for every W204 engine or model year.

Quick answer

Use the displayed message to start the booking enquiry. Ask the workshop to retrieve the relevant maintenance data and explain the vehicle-specific service sheet. If the reminder appears inconsistent with the previous service, bring the dated paperwork rather than resetting the display to make it look right.

What does the early W204 manual say?

The 2007 Saloon manual describes A/B basic services and an additional number or letter for extra work. Its visible online disclaimer warns of country and equipment differences; it must not be treated as a complete UK service schedule simply because it is written in English or hosted under another country path.

The early technical brochure also distinguishes four-button and twelve-button steering-wheel displays. This page therefore does not apply one menu-entry sequence to the whole generation. A familiar-looking dashboard photograph is not enough to prove that another car’s steps apply.

Why do days and distance both matter?

Record the unit the car actually displays. Do not turn a day countdown into an assumed mileage allowance or replace the reminder with a schedule from another market. Give the workshop the current mileage, last documented service date and complete display wording so it can reconcile the time and distance context.

What you seeWhat to check
A/B plus a suffixAsk for the exact scheduled work, rather than a suffix-only kit.
A countdown in daysReport the time figure as shown; do not assume a safe mileage allowance.
Different steering-wheel controlsFind the matched procedure before entering workshop menus.
The same A or B appears again unexpectedlyHave the records and applicable technical information checked.

Can the same service appear twice?

A Mercedes bulletin, LI00.20-P-063991, describes repeated A/B indications on certain colour-display clusters, including listed 204 variants. It is a specific technical issue, not evidence that every repeated service is wrong. Its applicability codes require workshop interpretation; this guide does not provide its programming remedy.

If your display seems unexpected, ask the workshop to establish whether the scheduled work, previous confirmation or an applicable technical issue explains it. Do not cancel necessary maintenance because an online article mentions a display fault.

Does W204 B5 identify the parts?

Not on its own. Owner discussions contain B5 questions and proposed workshop-code interpretations, but no exact W204 B5 service sheet has been verified for this page. The petrol/diesel and equipment context must be established before naming replacements. The generic B5 guide explains the verification route without transferring another owner’s invoice to your car.

What should a useful quotation contain?

Request the basic service and additional scheduled work as separate named lines, with a VAT-inclusive £ total. Ask what is already covered and what is conditional on inspection. A lower headline price is only comparable if it includes the same confirmed operations.

Keep invoices for earlier work, especially where an additional item is being discussed. Ask the workshop to explain how that documented work affects the current requirements; do not assume every previous replacement changes the reminder automatically.

Should I buy a W204 scanner first?

Verify support for the precise vehicle, cluster and intended ASSYST function before choosing a tool. Reading faults, retrieving maintenance data and resetting reminders are separate requirements. This guide recommends no product or oil/filter specification without supporting fitment evidence.
