For a W176 Mercedes A220 CDI or A220 d diesel, plan maintenance around its OM651.930 engine, exact vehicle specification and ASSYST PLUS reminder. Check oil information against the applicable manual and match filters individually, including steering side. A service letter alone cannot tell you every item due.
This guide brings together the important buying and service-planning checks for the selected diesel applications. Petrol A220 models and the later W177 A-Class need their own information.
Which A220 does this cover?
| MANN catalogue application | Engine and output | Catalogue date range |
|---|---|---|
| A220 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY W176 | OM651.930, 125 kW/170 hp | September 2012–May 2018 |
| A220 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY W176 | OM651.930, 120 kW/163 hp | September 2012–May 2018 |
| A220 d W176 | OM651.930, 130 kW/177 hp | July 2015–May 2018 |
These are the manufacturer’s parts-catalogue ranges, rather than a guarantee that every version was sold in the UK throughout those dates. Record the production details, engine, output, drivetrain and right- or left-hand drive before ordering. A registration year or AMG Line trim name does not replace those details.
Start with the reminder and the records
The inspected June 2015 owner manual describes Serv. → ASSYST PLUS as the on-board menu route to the service due date. Keep a note of the full display and mileage before arranging the appointment. The manual treats A as the smaller service and B as the larger one; it directs owners to the Service Booklet for the work and intervals.
Use our ASSYST PLUS explanation for the shared system. For this car, compare the reminder with previous invoices: a recently changed item should have a dated record, while a reset display cannot prove the work happened.
Oil: identify the reference before buying the quantity
There is a documented reason to check carefully: two Mercedes online manual files give different A220 diesel service-fill references. Our W176 A220 oil capacity and approval guide compares the named rows and explains how to use them. Avoid treating a figure copied from another OM651 Mercedes as a universal fill instruction.
If supplying oil to a workshop, agree the exact approved product and amount first. Keep the oil name and approval on the invoice so a later top-up or service starts with useful information.
Filters: check the parts list as well as the price
The W176 A220 diesel filter guide separates the oil and engine air filters from the cabin filter choices. It also covers a particularly relevant UK distinction: MANN lists different fuel-filter references for right- and left-hand-drive applications.
When comparing a service pack, read each component reference. A kit containing several filters is useful only if those filters match the car and are due for replacement. A catalogue application establishes a parts reference; it does not establish a replacement interval.
Build an itemised maintenance plan
- Separate the base service, additional scheduled work and any fault repairs.
- Record when oil, each filter and other time-dependent items were last changed.
- Identify the transmission and drivetrain before agreeing fluid work or buying a kit.
- Compare quotes using the same included work, parts, oil and total price.
- Retain the completed invoice and ask how the maintenance record will be updated.
Mercedes notes that frequent short trips, stop-start city use and long idling can require more frequent attention to oil and filtration. Describe the car’s actual use when agreeing its plan. This guide does not turn that advice into one invented interval for every W176.
