MANN lists C 22 028 as the engine air filter and HU 7010 z as the oil filter for its W205 C220 d/BlueTEC OM651.921 application at 125 kW/170 hp. Its later C220 d OM654.920 entry uses C 45 004 and HU 6020 z instead. The W205 generation name alone cannot select the pair.
This guide’s shopping route is for the earlier 2,143 cc OM651.921 car. The later 1,950 cc engine appears here to explain the change and prevent a wrong order, rather than to extend the earlier engine’s maintenance requirements.
Compare the two catalogue entries
| MANN application | Engine air filter | Oil filter |
|---|---|---|
| C220 d / BlueTEC (205), OM651.921, 125 kW/170 hp; March 2014–July 2018 | C 22 028 | HU 7010 z |
| C220 d (205), OM654.920, 143 kW/194 hp; from May 2018 | C 45 004 | HU 6020 z |
May-to-July 2018 overlaps in the manufacturer catalogue. Treat the dates as application context, not a rule based only on the UK registration year. Confirm the actual engine before ordering.
The catalogue also has a separate OM651 Efficiency Edition entry at 120 kW/163 hp. That is another reason to retain the full application information rather than reducing a purchase search to “C220 filter”.
Buying C 22 028 for the verified OM651 application
MANN’s current C 22 028 product page independently lists the selected engine/output application. Use the complete reference when comparing listings, and confirm that the seller’s item matches the car.

Search Amazon for MANN C 22 028 air filtersSearch results may include other filters and complete service packs. Check what is actually being sold. A C 22 020 result is not the C 22 028 reference specified here, even if the titles both mention a Mercedes 220 diesel.
Oil filter: retain the full HU 7010 z reference
The live MANN HU 7010 z page lists the OM651.921 C220 d/BlueTEC application as well as other vehicles. A filter fitting several engines does not mean their air filters, oil quantities or schedules are identical.
Check the filter reference and the supplied seals in the actual product description. For oil to accompany it, use the W205 C220 d oil approval and capacity guide. Its lubricant specification cannot substitute for a filter-fitment check.
What about a complete service kit?
Ask the supplier to match every item, not just the oil filter. The manufacturer catalogue identifies a fuel-filter reference for this OM651 application, but a retailer’s pack still needs matching to the actual vehicle and its contents. This guide does not turn that reference into a recommendation for all C220 diesels.
A kit containing the later engine’s air filter is not rescued by an attractive price or a broad “W205” heading. Likewise, a gearbox kit needs transmission identification; the engine badge cannot establish it.
Do not confuse engine air filtration with the cabin filters
C 22 028 is the engine air filter. MANN’s ventilation references include a prefilter and cabin-filter choices with different purposes. Our W205 cabin-filter and prefilter guide explains CU 25 002, CUK 26 023 and the RHD FP 26 023/1.
Use the applicable Service Booklet and the invoice history to decide when each item is due. Catalogue fitment does not create a replacement interval. Return to the W205 C220 d maintenance guide to plan the full service.
