For a W212 E220 CDI, plan servicing around the exact vehicle, its ASSYST PLUS reminder and the recorded maintenance. The OM651.924 engine code is a useful starting point, but MANN’s catalogue still separates Euro 5 and Euro 6 engine air filters within that engine family. This guide brings the oil, filter and service-record decisions together.
The main example is the 125 kW/170 hp E220 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY saloon. Oil information comes from the 2012 Mercedes saloon manual with the market limitation stated below. Parts information has its own, broader catalogue coverage; it does not extend that manual’s oil figures to every later car.
Start with the right E-Class application
| Detail to establish | Practical consequence |
|---|---|
| 212 saloon or estate, versus 207 coupé/cabriolet | An E220 badge spans different bodies and engine-code applications. |
| Full engine code and output | The selected application is OM651.924 at 125 kW/170 hp. |
| Euro emissions version | MANN splits the air-filter choice into Euro 5 and Euro 6 branches. |
| Service history and current mileage | Parts that fit are not necessarily due for replacement today. |
Check the vehicle documents or have the supplier confirm the production and emissions details privately. Do not put your VIN or registration in a public comment to obtain a parts match.
Engine oil: a specific reference to check
The inspected 2012 Mercedes manual names E220 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY in a group with a 6.5-litre oil-change quantity including the filter. Its DPF-diesel oil table includes MB 229.51. Because the PDF expressly concerns German-market vehicles, match the figure and specification to your own car’s supplied manual before using them.
The W212 E220 CDI engine-oil guide explains the documented capacity, approval wording and a specific oil product to compare. A five-litre purchase is less than the documented complete-change quantity, while a top-up requires only the amount indicated by the proper level check.
Filters: check the emissions version as well as the engine
For the selected E220 CDI OM651.924 application, MANN lists HU 7010 z for the oil filter. Its air-filter entries divide into C 35 003 for Euro 5 and C 35 005 for Euro 6, with a September 2013 onward condition on that later branch. A shared engine code or a similar-looking filter does not resolve the split.
For UK right-hand-drive cabin filtration, FP 29 005/1 is a specific biofunctional reference to check; CUK 29 005 is the activated-carbon option in the manufacturer catalogue. The W212 oil, air and cabin-filter guide puts the references and shopping links in one place.
Ask for a quote that separates the work
- Keep a photograph or written record of the full reminder and mileage.
- Check the last itemised invoice and the Service Booklet for additional maintenance.
- Ask the workshop to distinguish the base service from additional due items, fault investigation and repairs.
- Agree whether you may supply oil or filters, and which parts the workshop will fit.
- Keep an invoice recording the actual oil approval, filters, date and mileage.
Mercedes directs detailed service scope and intervals to the Service Booklet. A/B identifies a service category; a suffix can indicate extra work without acting as a universal parts list. For the display itself, use our W212 ASSYST PLUS service-message guide.
Arduous use and an incomplete record
The manual describes additional servicing needs under conditions such as frequent stop-start city driving, mountainous terrain and poor road surfaces. Oil, oil filters and air filters are among its examples. It does not set one shorter interval that applies to every owner.
If you cannot establish when additional items were done, ask for a written catch-up plan based on the car’s schedule and condition. A fresh dashboard reset cannot reconstruct missing maintenance. Equally, a long list of new filters does not prove the correct fuel-filter variant or transmission work has been selected.

Checked 16 October 2026. The Mercedes PDF explicitly limits its vehicle coverage to the German market and says it does not replace the manual supplied with the car. Its figures are documented references, not a blanket UK specification or schedule. Check your own vehicle documents for applicability. MANN catalogue dates describe parts applications, not replacement intervals.
